IBGOLF.COM interviews Rainer Alcón, CEO of Inmobiliaria Sa Coma
Golf, eastern Mallorca and the property market: highlights from IBGOLF.COM’s interview with Rainer Alcón.
Interview conducted during the pandemic lockdown.
Arriving in Mallorca – by sea
“In 1968 there weren’t many flights from Germany. We arrived by ship, the car loaded to the brim, right below the Cathedral. My parents missed Spain’s light: we had arrived in paradise.” Golf came years later, thanks to friends.
Golf, beaches and discerning visitors
The area has four superb golf courses plus the beaches of Sa Coma and Cala Millor. Together with the food and the tranquillity, they attract discerning visitors with strong purchasing power.
“We need golf tourists – and they choose us.”
That is why the Golf East Mallorca courses promote themselves together at international trade fairs. Inmobiliaria Sa Coma also led the sales of the Pula Golf development.
Reinventing in hard times
During the shutdown, the team used the time to innovate, reorganise and build new partnerships in Spain and abroad. “Difficult times are coming – but also excellent investment opportunities.”
Supporting golf
- Sponsoring tournaments, including one that raised a donation for the Montesión food bank.
- 6,000 practice balls donated to Pula Golf.
- Club-cleaning machines for the club.
On the course
- Best club: the putter, which he plays one-handed.
- Best memory: winning the Golf Son Servera 50th-anniversary tournament in torrential rain, with 85 strokes.
- Favourite course: Vall d’Or – though he recommends a tour of them all.
An idea for the industry
A co-ownership scheme, similar to crowdfunding, for small and medium investors: each could use the property or receive their share of the rental income. “It has nothing to do with timeshare.”
