After years of campaigning, the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB no. 61, 9 May 2024) published Law 3/2024 of 3 May on urgent housing measures.
What changes
A mandatory Official Register of Estate Agents of the Balearic Islands is created, with clear entry requirements.
Accredited professional training is required.
Financial guarantees and professional liability insurance are required.
Registration becomes compulsory in order to practise.
Why it matters
The aim is to stamp out unqualified operators so that only trained professionals can act as agents. For clients, that means more security in every purchase or sale.
